LISLE, Illinois -- Benedictine University head women's basketball coach Charlie Averkamp will return to the links this spring, adding the title of head women's golf coach.
Averkamp is in his second year at Benedictine and previously served as the head men's and women's golf coach at Concordia University Wisconsin for two years.
"I am excited for the chance to expand my role at Benedictine," Averkamp said. "I would like thank Director of Athletics Mark McHorney for this opportunity. Coach (Frank) Janczak has assembled a great group of student-athletes within the women's golf program, and I hope to help them continue to grow and improve. Our location, the surrounding great courses, and our indoor golf facility truly make Benedictine special in the collegiate golf landscape."
The Edgewood College graduate guided Concordia Wisconsin to a runner-up finish in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference in the fall of 2015. Averkamp coached Nina Puch, the 2014-15 NACC Player of the Year and winner of the conference tournament. Concordia Wisconsin competed in the NCAA Championships in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. during the spring of 2014. On the men's side, Averkamp coached the NACC Player of the Year, Evan Rabas, and PJ Clemins, the NACC Freshman of the Year in 2015. Concordia Wisconsin tied for the conference championship in 2015, losing the title in a playoff. The finish marked the best in program history.
Averkamp played basketball at Edgewood and owns the first triple-double in NACC history. The women's basketball team finished 16-11 last year and is currently 16-4 this season without a senior on the roster.
