MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College Director of Athletics Brad Duckworth has announced that Alicia Kontowski has been elevated to head coach of the Inferno's golf program after serving as assistant coach the past two seasons.
"I am very pleased to announce Alicia as the new head golf coach," said Duckworth. "She has been a big factor in the program's early growth as the program's primary recruiter. Under her leadership, I would expect the program to elevate in the next few years and to begin to contend near the top of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference."
Kontowski, who received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Alverno, has been on staff since the fall of 2013. In addition to her duties with the golf team, she has been an assistant basketball coach the past three seasons.
"I am both honored and excited to further my role and lead the Alverno golf team," said Kontowski. "I am looking forward to the future growth and competitiveness of Inferno golf."
The South Milwaukee native was a four-year member of the Alverno basketball team. Her senior season she was named NACC honorable mention, honored as the Inferno's MVP and also received the department's Virginia Wagner award which is presented to a student-athlete whose commitment, leadership, and community service has made a positive impact on the Alverno College campus.
The Alverno golf program was established in the fall of 2013. In the program's inaugural season, the Inferno placed 10th at the NACC women's golf championship and has finished in eighth place the past two seasons.
