LISLE, Ill. --- Benedictine University sophomore forward Alex Fanning has been named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week following her performance last week.
For the week, Fanning averaged 16 points and 13 rebounds, but her performance against Wisconsin Lutheran stood out as one of the top performances in the nation this year. Fanning finished with 25 points, just off her career-high, making 10 field goals. The sophomore also recorded a career-best 20 rebounds. Among the 25 points was a three-pointer in the closing seconds to send the game into overtime. Benedictine eventually won in the extra session and recorded the program's first-ever season sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran. Benedictine was down nine in the fourth quarter and down five in the final 30 seconds. Fanning was needed for just 13 minutes in a Saturday win at Rockford.
D3hoops.com honors the top performances from around the nation every week. Fanning has been named the NACC Player of the Week four times this season.
Benedictine has won 12 in a row and is on the verge of a second consecutive 20-win season. The team sits 16-0 in the NACC - the conference's lone unbeaten - and has won 23 games in a row at home. Benedictine is in the midst of the best run of success in program history under head coach Charlie Averkamp.
