After fouling on her first throw, Ocon vaulted to fifth place overall on her second throw with a toss of 17.65 meters. She failed to register a legal mark on her third preliminary throw but still comfortably advanced to the finals. After another foul to open the finals, Ocon followed with an effort of 17.97 meters (58-11 1/2) in round five. She was unable to improve on her mark with a throw of 17.93 meters on her final throw. All three of Ocon's legal efforts surpassed her previous NACC all-time record of 17.14 meters set at the Windy City Rumble in early February.

While the women's weight throw was the only event final featuring NACC athletes, there were six other NACC student-athletes in action in preliminary heats on the track throughout the day.

Concordia Chicago's Kayla Armstrong and Simone Wilson both competed in the women's 400 preliminaries. Armstrong advanced to the final after winning her heat with a time of 57.42. Wilson was sidelined from further competition after taking fourth in her heat with a 58.26 clocking. Armstrong also competed in the 200 prelims, taking fourth in her heat with a time of 25.56.

Benedictine had four individuals in competition Friday afternoon. Calvin Jordan took second in his heat of the 60-meter dash with a 6.81-second clocking to advance to Saturday's final. Teammate DeVonte Wilson was sixth in his heat with 6.92 and did not advance. DJ Anderson recorded a runner-up finish in his heat of the 400 with a time of 49.75 but will not advance. Marcos Garcia finished eighth in his preliminary heat of the 3,000 in 8:17.70, grabbing the 12th and final spot in Saturday's final.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the first NACC student-athlete to compete will be Jordan in the 60 final at 2:20 p.m. At 3:15 p.m., Aurora's Ryan Njegovan will compete in men's shot put where he is seeded third (17.45 meters), followed by Armstrong in the women's 400 final at 3:30 p.m. Garcia competes in the men's 3,000 final at 4:55 p.m.
