MILWAUKEE, Wis. --- Wisconsin Lutheran College Director of Athletics Skip Noon has announced that Shelby Spaciel, head men's and women's track & field coach for the past five seasons, is stepping down from her coaching post to spend more time with her family.
"Shelby took our track & field programs to new heights," said Noon. "Both teams' rosters more than doubled in size under her guidance. I'm appreciative of her work ethic, pushing student-athletes to compete at their highest level while caring for each of them personally. We are so thankful for her time at WLC and the lasting impression she'll leave on Warriors Athletics."
Spaciel, who was promoted to head coach in June 2014 after spending one season as a graduate assistant, mentored three NCAA Championship qualifiers during her tenure as head coach: Jonah Jahns (2018 Outdoor/400m), Amanda Frier (2016 Outdoor/400m Hurdles), and Jenny Ebeling (2015 Outdoor/Heptathlon). In addition, she coached five major conference award winners and 27 individual conference champions while with the Warriors.
At the 2019 NACC Outdoor Championships, the women's team tied their best-ever finish (second), while the men's squad posted their highest finish since 2008 (fourth).
"To have had the opportunity to mentor, coach, and be a part of Warriors Athletics for the past five years has been a wonderful experience for my family and I," said Spaciel. "A heartfelt thanks to all those at WLC who make it truly special. I will always have Warriors Green in my heart."
A search for the Warriors' next head coach is underway.
