KOHLER, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- Illinois Institute of Technology defeated Concordia University Wisconsin, 5-2, on Sunday in the championship match of the 2022 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Men's Tennis Tournament at Sports Core.
The top-seeded Scarlet Hawks (11-8) struck the first blow as Pablo Marroquin Borque and Nabil Fawaz posted an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. The Falcons (10-10) battled back to take a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Tim Peters and Peter Naylor won 8-4 at No. 2 and Logan Snyder and Landon Sather posted an 8-6 win at No. 1.
Illinois Tech took control of the match as play moved to singles, winning the opening set on all six courts. Jordan Lauer scored a 6-0, 6-3 win over Naylor at No. 5 singles to even the match at 2-2, while Fawaz followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Peters at No. 3 to push the Scarlet Hawks back into the lead. Marroquin Borque topped Joshua Klement, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4 and Davis Housman bested Landon Sather, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 to close out the match.
The tournament title is the third in succession for Illinois Tech, which earned the NACC's automatic berth in the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships. The championship field will be revealed Monday, May 9 with a press release on NCAA.com.
