All-NACC Men's Tennis Team, Major Awards Announced

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) has announced its all-conference team and major awards for the 2022 men's tennis season.

Both major student-athlete awards were split as Illinois Institute of Technology junior Davis Housman and Wisconsin Lutheran College senior Evan Sadowski shared NACC Player of the Year honors, while NACC Freshman of the Year honors were shared by Concordia University Wisconsin's Landon Sather and Wisconsin Lutheran College's Aiden Newberg. Illinois Tech head coach Kris Powell was recognized by his peers as the 2022 NACC Coach of the Year.

All honors are voted on by the league's head coaches.

NACC Co-Player of the Year ~ Davis Housman, Illinois Institute of Technology
Housman has posted a 24-10 record this spring, playing primarily at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles. He has a 13-2 mark at No. 2 singles this season, including a 7-0 mark against NACC competition. Paired with Huy Ngo in doubles, Housman has gone 11-8 overall, including 11-4 at No. 2 doubles and 7-0 in league play. He provided Illinois Tech's lone point in losses to both regionally-ranked Carthage and Connecticut College, which competes in the extremely tough NESCAC.

Housman is the second Illinois Tech student-athlete to be named NACC Men's Tennis Player of the Year, joining Franklin Zhong (2019).

NACC Co-Player of the Year ~ Evan Sadowski, Wisconsin Lutheran College
Sadowski posted a 24-15 record this season, playing primarily at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Warriors. He has a 12-5 record as WLC's top-line singles player with a 6-1 mark in NACC play. Sadowski's 12-9 mark in doubles includes a 10-5 record at the No. 1 spot and a 5-2 record in league play. Paired primarily with Aiden Newberg, the tandem posted an 11-7 record overall, including a 4-2 mark in league play and a 9-5 mark at the No. 1 spot. Sadowski also has a conference win at No. 1 doubles with Asa White.

Sadowski is the second Wisconsin Lutheran student-athlete to be named NACC Men's Tennis Player of the Year, joining two-time winner Lee Johnson (2014-15).

NACC Co-Freshman of the Year ~ Landon Sather, Concordia University Wisconsin
Sather has posted a 23-16 record through the completion of the regular season, primarily at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles. In singles play, he has posted a 13-7 mark overall, including a 6-1 mark in league play. Sather has consistently played well against some of the best teams in the region, posting a win against Wheaton and falling in third-set tiebreakers against both UW-Whitewater and Carthage. Paired with Logan Snyder in doubles, the tandem has posted a 12-9 record overall, including an 8-8 mark in duals - all at No. 1 - and a 5-0 mark in NACC play.

Sather is the fourth Falcon to be named NACC Freshman of the Year, joining Brad Guendel (2015), Christian Docter (2016), and Nolan Rademacher (2018).

NACC Co-Freshman of the Year ~ Aiden Newberg, Wisconsin Lutheran College
Newberg has posted a 24-17 mark this year, playing primarily at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles for Wisconsin Lutheran. He has an 11-5 mark at No. 2 singles and a 4-2 mark against league competition. In doubles play, Newberg has gone 13-9 overall with an 11-7 record at the No. 1 spot. Paired most frequently with Evan Sadwoski, the tandem have posted a 9-5 mark at No. 1 and a 4-2 mark in NACC duals.

Newberg is the third Warrior to be named NACC Freshman of the Year, joining Lee Johnson (2012) and Zach Birner (2013).

NACC Coach of the Year ~ Kris Powell, Illinois Insitute of Technology
Powell, in his first year with the program, got off to a rocky start facing a tough nonconference schedule. The Scarlet Hawks won just two of their first 10 matches but rebounded for seven wins in a row in league play. Illinois Tech dropped just four matches - two by forfeit due to an illness - en route to a perfect 7-0 record in NACC play. This is the third straight time an Illinois Tech coach has been named NACC Coach of the Year. Erik Scanlan received the award in 2019 and 2021 (no award in 2020).

All-Conference Team
The 2022 NACC All-Conference Men's Tennis Team features 12 singles selections and - due to a tie in voting - seven doubles tandems. Of the 26 total selections, Concordia Wisconsin claimed 10 (four singles, three doubles teams) while Illinois Tech claimed nine (five singles, two doubles teams). Milwaukee School of Engineering and Wisconsin Lutheran each had one singles player and one doubles team selected, and the final singles selection went to Marian University.

A total of nine players were selected for their play in both singles and doubles -- Peter Naylor, Tim Peters, Sather, and Logan Snyder of Concordia Wisconsin, Alann Torres, Jordan Lauer, and Housman of Illinois Tech, Alec Dam of MSOE, and Wisconsin Lutheran's Sadowski.
