Nineteen From NACC Named All-Region by ABCA,

MILWAUKEE, Wis. ( --- A total of 19 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) baseball student-athletes accounted for 29 honors as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and both announced their all-region teams Tuesday.

League champion Aurora University led all NACC programs with four student-athletes accounting for nine honors. Outfielder Corey Vondra was a first-team selection by both organizations, while utility player Josh Reinhardt ( first team; ABCA second team), starting pitcher Nick Malmberg ( and ABCA second team), and outfielder Dylan White ( and ABCA third team) also received a pair of all-region honors. Shortstop Collin Meinert was a third-team pick.

Benedictine University had four student-athletes pick up a total of six honors. Catcher Jack Surin received first-team honors from both and the ABCA, and was named the ABCA's Midwest Region Position Player of the Year. Designated hitter Kevin Bushnell was named to the ABCA first team and the second team, while first baseman Damen Castillo was picked to the all-region second team by the ABCA and relief pitcher Simon Herrold was named to the third team.

Illinois Institute of Technology was next with five total honors spread between three student-athletes. Second baseman Brandon Bennitt received a pair of second-team honors, while first baseman Ted Howell was a third-team pick by both organizations. Shortstop Nick Bledsoe also received second-team honors from the ABCA.

Concordia University Wisconsin third baseman Sam Beers scored a pair of first-team all-region honors and was joined on the ABCA team by outfielder Blake Gosswein, who received third-team honors from the coaches.

Marian University catcher Sean Meyer was the final NACC student-athlete to receive multiple all-region honors. Both the ABCA and slotted him on the third team.

Edgewood College received a pair of honors as well. Outfielder Joseph Kalafut was named to the ABCA all-region second team, while designated hitter Kyle Sagan was named to's third team and was named the publication's Midwest Region Rookie of the Year.

Concordia University Chicago first baseman Brody Mariotti (first team) and Milwaukee School of Engineering pitcher Cole Raines (third team) also received all-region honors from the ABCA.

The ABCA teams were voted on by member coaches in a process led by the ABCA NCAA Division III All-America Committee. ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors, which will be announced Thursday, June 3. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams for all divisions will be announced Wednesday, June 23.

Players were nominated for the awards by the sports information directors at the region's various schools. The ballot was then made available to staff and contributors from which three team in each region were determined.
